Two Sisters
“How did she tell you about that, Ira?”
“I came home late after the group that day and was very tired. My mother was acting strange. She was following me everywhere I went and said nothing.” Ira’s mother, Ludmila, is a slim, weak woman 60 years old. She has been sick for so many years that even her voice became quiet and weak. In her eyes you can see a constant fear of heart attacks when medicine doesn’t help. In such moments Ira closed the door of her room and prayed God to help her mother. We were supporting Ira in prayers and most of all were worried for her mother not to pass away without getting to know Jesus.
In the evening before the Pentecost day we went to visit Ludmila and had a very good time talking. She shared her concerns about her husband who is a very capable man but started drinking, and it ruined his life. She also talked about her son Viktor with great love and concern about his future. She told us about Ira’s hard life and about wonderful changes in her character after she accepted Christ. We were reading the Scripture together and talked about the meaning of this holiday. Ludmila had so many questions. She worried that she wasn't worthy to go to heaven. I explained that her fears were groundless as Jesus died for her sins, and she is forgiven now…
“So, (Ira continued telling the story.) that evening I couldn’t understand what was happening to my mother. But then our eyes met, and I saw something unusual. And suddenly I heard--”I accepted Jesus as my Savior.”
That night I couldn’t sleep. I kept thanking God for this miracle. Now we’re not just a mother and a daughter. We’re two sisters of one Father. Now we can pray together for our whole family to start serving the Lord.”
